| Abstract Scope |
This study evaluates the influence of alloying elements on the biodegradation behavior of binary and ternary Zn-based alloys with potential applications as biodegradable metallic biomaterials. Electrochemical tests were conducted in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.4) at 37 °C to mimic physiological conditions. To reproduce the oxidative environment associated with inflammatory responses, 10 mM H₂O₂ was added to the testing medium. The results demonstrated that the simulated inflammatory conditions significantly decreased the degradation resistance of the investigated alloys compared with their behavior in PBS. These findings highlight the importance of considering inflammatory environments when assessing the in vitro performance of Zn-based biodegradable biomaterials intended for biomedical applications. |
