| Abstract Scope |
Future society will be profoundly AI-enabled, where intelligent “brains” must operate through vast networks of physical “bodies” – IoT systems composed of interconnected sensors. By 2030, tens of billions of connected devices and trillions of sensors will be deployed, driving a dramatic increase in energy demand. Ensuring sustainable power for these systems is therefore critical. Sustainable IoT requires energy autonomy through integrated ecosystems combining storage (e.g., Li-ion batteries, supercapacitors), power management, and energy harvesting technologies. Among these, energy harvesters play a pivotal role by converting ambient sources – light, heat, motion, and RF signals – into usable electricity, enabling self-sufficient operation without reliance on grid power. This talk will review recent advances in energy harvesting, identify fundamental bottlenecks, and outline future directions towards scalable, fully sustainable IoT systems. |
