| Abstract Scope |
Measurement of the physical properties of high-temperature melts is hindered by their reactivity. These materials play key roles in metallurgical processes, including extraction, refining, and casting. Herein, we utilize a material-agnostic, quasi-containerless apparatus to stabilize liquid metals at high temperature. An optically powered (thermal imaging) furnace is used to provide simultaneous heating and lighting for optical imaging. Automated image processing and analysis enables extraction of material properties from high speed video data. Two experimental configurations - pendant drop and constrained sessile drop - are used for examination of static and dynamic behaviors. |
