Abstract Scope X-ray techniques coupled with the world-class brightness of the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) enables exceptional opportunities for non-destructive studies of materials. Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) provides access to advanced NSLS-II capabilities through a partnership established for irradiation testing and post-irradiation examination to accelerate the development of nuclear materials. We have commissioned a rich suite of characterization resources at the 28ID-2(XPD) beamline of NSLS-II for the nuclear science community. The achievable high X-ray energy (40-70 keV) is beneficial for high penetration for materials consisting of high-Z elements, such as uranium. Custom high-temperature heating instruments (up to 1000oC) compatible with radioactive materials are available for studies such as accident-tolerant fuel testing and development. High-force (+/-4.5kN) tensile testing stage is also available for mechanical studies. All these advanced capabilities are coupled with high-modality X-ray techniques such as diffraction, fluorescence, pair distribution, imaging and tomography under one unique setup.
