Abstract Scope |
Large scale additive manufacturing processes such as gas metal arc directed energy deposition (GMA-DED) have the potential to provide for the rapid manufacturing times needed to produce replacement parts for power generation technologies. However, the high temperature mechanical properties, specifically creep, have not been extensively studied for GMA-DED processed alloys. In this presentation, the creep performance of several GMA-DED nickel based alloys and austenitic stainless steels are presented. The creep performance is compared to other additive manufacturing processes as well as conventional processing (wrought or cast). Differences in microstructural features that lead to differences in performance are discussed. |
