| Abstract Scope |
While likely not a limiting issue, the corrosion of structural materials in Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) needs to be understood so as to avoid highly corroding conditions. Fundamental to that understanding is a comprehensive view of the thermochemistry of the interactions between salts and utilized alloys. To further that goal, the Molten Salt Database-Thermochemical has been supplied with consistent functions for both metallic and chloride and fluoride species of chromium, iron, nickel, molybdenum, and nickel as these are among the key alloy components. The current presentation will discuss the development of the thermodynamic relations of corrosion-relevant species with respect to chloride and fluoride MSR fuel salts. Also covered will be the use of the relations in computing limiting corrosion/deposition behavior in potential MSR systems. |
