High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are potential candidates for next-generation multimegawatt accelerator beam-window applications where beam-induced radiation damage and thermo-mechanical loading require materials that can withstand this high-intensity environment. Often, nanoindentation tests are performed to determine the high-intensity-beam-induced radiation and thermal shock effects. Nanoindentation can successfully calculate hardness and modulus, but can not find yield stress-strain with a sharp indenter tip geometry. This poster presents a yield stress–strain workflow for pristine and ion-irradiated AlCoCrMnVTi HEAs using a flat-punch indentation procedure, finding yield behavior from unloading curves. Standard materials are first tested, using silica for calibration and aluminum and stainless steel as metallic yield benchmarks, to validate contact-area assumptions, repeatability, and extraction of yield stress-strain behavior. The validated protocol is then applied to unirradiated and irradiated HEAs to compare the onset of plasticity, work-hardening behavior, and irradiation-induced changes in nanoscale deformation. Lastly, the stress–strain metrics will be correlated with existing hardness/modulus data. |
