Abstract Scope |
In freeform glass additive manufacturing process it is very difficult to precisely place glass. To address this issue, feedback control techniques are utilized, which requires the ability to determine the glass location in real time. This paper introduces a vision-based technique to precisely locate the part profile. A FLIR Blackfly S USB3 camera is used to record images of the glass deposition process. The images are directly transferred to memory on a desktop computer running on the real-time Linux Ubuntu operating system at a loop rate of 50 ms. The images are processed and filtered to determine the edges of the deposited glass, the workzone, and the glass coming into the workzone. Experimental studies are conducted to evaluate how precisely glass morphology can be measured: single tracks, including start and stop locations, multiple tracks stacked on one another, tracks fabricated off the substrate, and tracks that are joined together. |
