Abstract Scope |
Two-color pyrometry using low-cost NIR sensors offers a promising method for real-time thermal measurement in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). By capturing radiative intensity at two distinct NIR wavelengths, the technique enables temperature measurement independent of emissivity. A key focus of this work is achieving accurate perspective alignment between two separate cameras using inexpensive mechanical methods, ensuring proper spatial correspondence without costly optical setups. The system is validated against thermocouples and an infrared camera, showing measurement accuracy across methods. While the low-cost sensors introduce limitations in terms of resolution and dynamic range, careful calibration and setup allow meaningful, spatially resolved thermal data to be obtained. Compared to commercial pyrometry systems, the dual-camera approach significantly reduces cost while maintaining functional accuracy for process monitoring. Thus, it enables the opportunity for process control, defect detection, and part quality assurance for affordable deployment into production systems. |
