Abstract Scope |
This study evaluates the performance of BCEPQ ceramic blocks manufactured from clayey soils sourced in Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ), combining physical, chemical, and mineralogical characterizations with experimental testing and numerical simulations. The blocks, produced by extrusion and pressing processes, were assessed according to ABNT NBR 15270-1, showing compressive strength up to 18.71 MPa and water absorption compatible with structural applications. Small walls with 11 courses were tested under static and dynamic loads, monitored using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and simulated in ANSYS 2024.R1. The computational modeling showed good agreement with experimental data (82% convergence), enabling the identification of critical deformation regions. The results indicate that BCEPQ blocks perform well in lightweight structural masonry, with potential for enhanced thermal efficiency, sustainability, and modular application. The findings provide a basis for future numerical calibrations of innovative ceramic construction elements. |
