| Abstract Scope |
The aesthetic quality and the prevention of biofilm adhesion in dental biomaterials are important concerns. The incorporation of copper nanoparticles (CuNP) into resins can prevent biofilm formation. This procedure has deleterious aesthetic effects. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding different concentrations (0.05% and 0.075%) of CuNPs on the color of a dental resin. The colors were quantified using a spectrophotometer based on the CIE Lab* system. The results showed that incorporating CuNPs alters the color due to increased absorption by the CuNPs and light scattering by the resin. Samples with a thickness of 2 mm showed greater opacity and greater color variation due to increased light attenuation along the optical path. Although copper nanoparticles offer potential functional benefits, their color impact must be carefully controlled to ensure aesthetic acceptability in dental applications and to avoid environmental impact after disposal. |
