| Abstract Scope |
In this study, Surface modification is an attractive method to enhance the surface hardness and wear resistance of titanium. It was found that the microhardness increases with the increase of the temperature and time of nitriding. The surface morphology of the Ti–2Mo-0.3Ni alloy in relation to the nitriding processing parameters was analysed. Additionally, to improve wear and corrosion resistance a continuous wave 1.8kW diode laser was used to synthesize Ti/TiN metal matrix composite coating on the surface of commercial pure titanium. The synthesized Ti/TiN metal-matrix composite coating layer exhibited significantly improved wear resistance under high-temperature (up to 250°C) dry sliding wear conditions.
