The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of bismuth borate glasses embedded with gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were investigated at 800 nm using the Z-scan technique with a femtosecond laser. Glass samples, synthesized via the melt-quench method, incorporated commercially sourced 10 nm GNPs (Sigma Aldrich) at different fabrication stages to control morphology. Open and closed aperture Z-scan measurements determined the nonlinear absorption coefficient (NAC) and nonlinear refractive index (n2). Homogeneous GNP dispersion enhanced optical nonlinearity, yielding NAC of 4.4×10^−13 mW^−1 and n2 of 1.8×10^−18 m2W^−1. In contrast, inhomogeneous distribution increased scattering, reducing performance. These results emphasize the influence of nanoparticle morphology on NLO properties, optimizing glass matrices for photonic applications. |
