Abstract Scope |
The great deal of research into metal additive manufacturing technologies over recent years has identified a clear need to prevent the formation of columnar grains that are widely reported when producing 3D printed titanium components. The presence of textured grain structures causes unfavourable mechanical property anisotropy, which presents challenges in component design, build strategy and certification of products. This work explores methods to refine the grain size and prevent columnar grains from forming during Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing. |
