| Abstract Scope |
Research focuses on the quality control of zinc-aluminum coatings, which demonstrate a high level of protection even under severe operating conditions. New integrated ICP-Zn standards were used to control the quality of zinc coatings, allowing for the evaluation of performance properties, microstructure, phase composition, zinc coating thickness, as well as the integral deposition rate and current yield. 0.3–0.7 indicates average quality, while 0.71–1.0 indicates high quality. Quality control of zinc coatings can be performed quickly using a tripole, as well as with a comprehensive evaluation of properties using a quadrupole. A structure is formed consisting of an α-phase and a β-phase (intermetallic compound). In this case, the δ-phase forms a continuous chain around the α-phase grains, which improves corrosion resistance. Zinc coatings consisting of an Al-Zn eutectic mixture 3.5–4% Al increase the corrosion resistance and durability of steel by creating a passive barrier coatings. |
