Abstract Scope |
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) carried out a project to enhance the reliability of CD20 feeder cylinder operation. The alumina feeder plays an essential role in maintaining the appropriate alumina concentration in the bath. Malfunctions of the feeder cylinders, attributed to design limitations, have been noted to cause deviations in the alumina feeding. These deviations affect the efficiency of the cell and can lead to operational issues such as anode effects. This paper describes the initial challenges, design phases, and successful modification of the feeder system, aimed at minimising safety concerns and operational issues. The modification addresses problems caused by regulator malfunctions and pressure fluctuations in the previous system, thereby enhancing the responsiveness, reliability, and sealing integrity of the feeder cylinders during operation. This paper will also discuss the implementation in live cells, considering all safety concerns and working conditions in potrooms, without interrupting production. |
