| Abstract Scope |
Current industrial titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) powder bed fusion powder mixing and re-use practice, where used/oxidized powder is routinely mixed with virgin powder, leads to significant oxygen content and yield strength variation (15% change in yield strength) within a single build. Effects from porosity, grain size, and crystallographic texture were ruled out as root causes. Powder quarantining and other mitigation strategies will be discussed in this talk, as well as how this research supported the development of recent standard ASTM F3592 “Standard Guide for Additive Manufacturing of Metals – Powder Bed Fusion –Guidelines for Feedstock Re-use and Sampling Strategies”. |
