Abstract Scope |
Expanding the design space of additively manufactured functional components demands complex multi-material architecture and customizable functionality. Conventional multi-material polymer manufacturing techniques, such as casting, are tedious, time-consuming, and geometry limiting. Existing vat photopolymerization (VPP) printers address some of these barriers but are limited to producing parts with either a singular material or a small build volume. To address these challenges, a novel system that enables both intralayer and interlayer deposition of various UV-curable resins on a larger scale than current multi-material VPP printers was designed. This system utilizes a single layer “vat” that allows for the controlled delivery and removal of both high and low viscosity resins, enabling precise material transitions within a print. As a result, the printer can produce parts with tunable mechanical properties, significantly expanding the potential for functional, customizable multi-material components. |
