Ti₃C₂Tₓ MXene is a promising precursor for carbide-based ceramics due to its layered structure and tunable surface chemistry. This study investigates the phase evolution, microstructural changes, and inherited orientation of Ti₃C₂Tₓ MXene during thermal treatment up to 1500 °C, with and without SiC incorporation. Thermogravimetric analysis, wide-angle X-ray scattering, and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the transformation of MXene into TiCᵧ while scanning electron microscopy showed retention of the characteristic lamellar morphology. Azimuthal analysis revealed that the strong preferred orientation of MXene was preserved during ceramic conversion, with MXene serving as the template for TiCᵧ formation. SiC incorporation, depending on the architecture, influenced phase evolution, enhanced oxidation resistance, and improved mechanical performance after sintering. These findings demonstrate that Ti₃C₂Tₓ can be converted into oriented TiCᵧ-based ceramics while preserving structural architecture, providing a promising route for high-temperature ceramic composites. |
