| Abstract Scope |
The interfacial behaviour of molten slags is closely related to the slag-metal separation and refractory corrosion in steelmaking. We investigated the dynamic wetting behaviour of BOF slags on pure Fe and MgO substrates by replacing FeO with Al2O3 for CaO-Al2O3-FeO-SiO2-MgO slags with a fixed basicity R = 1.5 in the present work. The wetting process was recorded in situ by the high-temperature sessile drop method, and apparent contact angle, droplet height, spreading diameter, and apparent volume were obtained by image analysis. An increase in the Al2O3 content on the pure Fe substrate suppressed the excessive spreading, decreased the droplet height decrease rate, and increased the final apparent contact angle. For the slag with 20 wt.% FeO and 10 wt.% Al2O3 on MgO substrate, better resistance to wetting and spreading was observed. As predicted, surface tension decreased with temperature but increased after Al2O3 substitution. |
