| Abstract Scope |
This presentation explores recent advances in cold spray additive manufacturing of refractory alloys at Sandia National Laboratories. The research focuses on residual stress management, heat treatments, and mechanical properties of cold spray additively manufactured parts. Residual stresses in freestanding cylindrical geometries were measured using neutron diffraction, and the findings are presented to expand understanding of how residual stresses evolve in cold spray deposits beyond flat geometries. Cold spray is well positioned for additive manufacturing of refractory alloys due to its low heat input and reduced interstitial pickup, both of which can challenge melt-based processes. The presentation will also discuss ongoing work to better understand processing-structure-property relationships in cold sprayed refractory alloys and highlight practical considerations for producing non-symmetric complex geometries while maintaining mechanical performance.
