| Abstract Scope |
Heavy metal oxide powders have attracted increasing interest as multifunctional fillers for polymer composites due to their high density, thermal stability, and ability to modify the physicochemical behavior of fiber-reinforced laminates. This study investigates the influence of bismuth oxide (Bi₂O₃) and tungsten oxide (WO₃) on the thermal and structural properties of hybrid flax/aramid–epoxy composites. Laminates with a 2A/2L stacking sequence were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Bi₂O₃-reinforced laminates exhibited degradation onset at 303.44 °C, with a principal mass loss of 25.83% between 285.04 and 366.38 °C. In contrast, WO₃ delayed degradation onset to 343.06 °C and extended decomposition to 582.14 °C despite a total mass loss of 79.38%. These results demonstrate that WO₃ enhances thermal resistance, whereas Bi₂O₃ promotes a more controlled degradation profile, highlighting their complementary roles in lightweight multifunctional hybrid composites. |
