| Abstract Scope |
This study investigates a novel blast armor integrating a nanocellulose-spider silk biocomposite matrix infused with a supercritical fluid (SCF). Under extreme high-strain-rate shockwaves, the micro-architecture dynamically responds through localized deformation, triggering instantaneous phase transitions and dynamic shear-thickening. This complex fluid-structure interaction drives rapid thermal energy dissipation (ΔT > 500 °C) and mitigates shock impedance mismatch during sudden, massive compression. Methodology coupled multi-physics hydrocode simulations analyzing acoustic wave propagation with empirical split-Hopkinson pressure bar and ballistic pendulum testing. Results demonstrate this biomimetic system achieves superior specific energy absorption, profound delamination resistance, and a severely reduced backface signature compared to conventional Kevlar or ceramic armors. |
