Recently, soft magnetic materials with high saturation magnetization and low total core loss (Pcv), which are used in devices such as coils, motors, and transformers, have seen improvements in their magnetic properties in high frequency regions to meet demands for downsizing and high-frequency applications. Magnetic powder cores, consisting of magnetic metal powders coated with electrically insulating materials, are one particularly attractive class of materials expected to meet these demands. In our work, the ferrite layer was used as an insulating material because of its high resistivity and soft magnetic properties. It is necessary to optimize the thickness of the ferrite layer to decrease the eddy current loss (Pe) or the hysteresis loss (Ph) and make such ferrite-coated materials more advantageous. We investigated the Ni-Zn-Fe and Mn-Zn-Fe ferrite-coated powders and cores with high μ’ and low loss properties. Detailed results will be reported at the ACerS Annual Meeting. |
