| Abstract Scope |
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) is new, rapidly growing technology. During AM small quantity of metal is melted and solidified. In this melting and solidification phase it is important to be able to control and understand the heat and mass transfer in the melt pool.
Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) control of the melt pool can be done by using external magnetic fields. Magnetohydrodynamics control of the liquid metal are recently considered to be actual in metal additive manufacturing. It can solve various actual problems, like precisely timed exact size droplet ejection from the printhead, oriented heat transfer in the melt pool, control of oxidation of molten metal and heat and mass flow.
We present methods and scale model experiments how to improve melt pool control in metal AM using combined magnetic fields. Aim of this work is to create MHD printhead for better real-time control of the various metal AM. |
