| Abstract Scope |
Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) slag is an important by-product and has significant potential for reuse due to its relatively high FeO and CaO content. Despite these valuable components, EAF slag is still not effectively utilized in many applications. In this study, a circular economy-based approach was investigated through the carbothermic reduction of EAF slag in order to recover metallic iron and obtain a reusable secondary slag product. Experimental studies were performed in an induction furnace at temperatures ranging between 1450 and 1470 °C. According to the mass balance results, the process achieved an average iron recovery of nearly 95%, while the metallic product reached a purity level of up to 89.3%. At the same time, the slag maintained a high CaO content of nearly 50%, indicating its possible use as a supplementary cementitious material. |
