Abstract Scope |
Additive manufacturing offers the opportunity to modify material structure and the distribution of intrinsic and extrinsic defects that drive failure processes. However, characterization of the structure and distribution of 3D defects remains a challenge. High-resolution chemical, crystallographic and morphological data requires multiple characterization modalities and presents unique image and data challenges. The development of the TriBeam platform to gather multimodal materials data will be described. Rare features associated with polycrystal structure and print defects are extracted from 3D datasets of additively manufactured Ta, refractory alloys and Co-Ni alloys. Implications for failure processes and their modification will be discussed. |
