| Abstract Scope |
The effects of cold spray processing parameters on coating deposition characteristics have been widely investigated. To more effectively control the coating performance, tailoring feedstock properties may offer a promising approach. In the present study, both pure tin (Sn) and Sn-based alloy with minor additions of solute elements were fabricated using gas atomization and then deposited using cold spray. Then, analytical transmission electron microscopy was performed on feedstocks and coatings. The Sn-based alloy exhibits a much higher deposition efficiency and a greater coating thickness than pure Sn under the same processing condition. We attribute the enhanced deposition behavior of the Sn-based alloy to the existence of grain boundary precipitates, which facilitate particle deformation and bonding upon impact. |
