| Abstract Scope |
Creep fracture has been modeled using continuum damage methods and cohesive zone theory. Recently phase field method is being used for the same. It requires fewer parameters to be calibrated, is free of mesh bias, and can predict crack initiation, propagation and branching without additional criteria on a fixed mesh. This work aims to model creep fracture at the scale of single crystals by considering crack evolution in plastically deformed regions as well. Abaqus UMAT will be used to implement phase field creep fracture. Currently phase field fracture has been implemented for J2 plasticity in a homogenous material. Crystal plasticity Finite Element Method is being used towards creep fracture simulation in a single crystal and towards polycrystals in the future. The outcome of this work is expected to contribute towards understanding failure modes in components functioning at high temperatures over long periods of time. |
