| Abstract Scope |
Al2O3-supported spent catalytic converters constitute an important secondary source of PMGs. Smelting-metal-collection technology offers an efficient pre-concentration route for PGMs recovery; In this study, phase equilibria in the CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 system were calculated with FactSage 8.1, and five low-melting slag compositions were designed for experimental. The distribution behavior of Pt and the evolution of slag mineralogy were then investigated during 1 h smelts at 1500°C with 10 wt% metallic Fe as collector. Under the optimum slag chemistry, the Pt distribution coefficient between slag and alloy phases was 3.4*10-4, indicating efficient transfer of Pt to the metallic phase. On this basis, the role of B2O3 as a fluxing additive was further examined. The addition of 5 wt% B2O3 markedly lowers the slag melting temperature and reduces its viscosity, thereby enhancing the efficiency of Pt collection, thereby enhancing process energy efficiency. |
