| Abstract Scope |
The need for lightweight, non-toxic radiation shielding materials has driven interest in polymer-based composites. In this work, epoxy composites reinforced with ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) were prepared with varying filler content and evaluated for gamma-ray and neutron attenuation. Shielding performance improved progressively with increasing UHTC loading, demonstrating their effectiveness as protective fillers. Mechanical testing revealed enhanced hardness, stiffness, and compressive strength, though tensile strength and ductility decreased at higher loadings. These results highlight that UHTC-reinforced epoxy composites provide a promising combination of radiation protection and structural performance, suitable for applications in nuclear facilities, medical shielding, aerospace, and radioactive material containment. |
