Abstract Scope |
High-resolution characterization of metallic fuel system such as Uranium (U)-Zirconium (Zr) is crucial for the nuclear community as it provides detailed insights into the microstructural features and behavior of fuel under operational conditions. This information is essential for enhancing fuel performance, safety, and longevity. While high-resolution characterization using techniques like TEM for local microstructure has been extensively performed in recent years, the nano-scale precipitation and fission product analysis of metallic fuels remain to be studied for a comprehensive understanding of fuel performance. To that end, APT studies have been conducted on U-10Zr metallic fuel irradiated in the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) across the radial direction to gain a better perspective on the redistribution of Zr and U precipitates. Additionally, APT has been utilized for the chemical analysis of fission products and for quantifying their distribution along the radial directions. |
