Abstract Scope |
Anticancer drug curcumin is loaded on to the cube shaped MnFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) surface using chitosan and PEG as anchor polymers. NPs have an average particle size of 23±5 nm, and Ms of 77.8 emu/g. PEG coated NPs have high specific absorption rate (SAR) of 521.6 W/g at 386.25 kHz field frequency and 300 G field amplitude. MDA cancer cells were treated with NPs and an alternating magnetic field (AMF) of 220 G field strength and 386.25 kHz frequency. The drug-loaded nanoparticles were subjected to AMF achieving a saturation temperature of 46-47 °C and maintained at this temperature for 30 minutes. The curcumin loaded NPs treated with AMF has shown high apoptotic cell death of 79.7% and necroptosis of 88.1% indicating the synergistic effect of the drug and magnetic hyperthermia. The nanoparticles system presented here has shown high potential for killing cancer cells by activating various cellular pathways. |
