Abstract Scope Advanced materials research has produced transformative scientific breakthroughs, yet the successful translation of laboratory-discoveries into commercially viable products remains frequently constrained by process-scalability, certification requirements, supply-chain resilience, and market adoption barriers. Here we present pathways from proof-of-concept to pilot-scale validation and full-scale manufacturing of select embodiments in energy, enhanced-geothermal (EGS), from defense-articles to medical-devices. Highlighted are salient commercial successes (1) Dissolvable-Plugged-Nozzles (DPNs’), an inflow-control-device (ICD) for extended-reach offshore-wells with a reactive bulk-metallic-glass (BMG) plug with tailored degradation in completions-fluids (2) META-material seals to extend life of valves and packings (3) corrosion-resistant, thermally-stable alloy for EGS tubulars and a chemical free solution for scale-prevention (4) novel shaped-charge with intelligent tracers integrated in its degradable high-entropy-alloy (HEA) liner for a clean, low-skin, perforation-tunnel. This work further examines techno-economic factors governing successful commercialization, the role of strategic capital-investment, collaboration among academia, industry, and government that have accelerated technology-maturation and strengthened domestic manufacturing capabilities.
