| Abstract Scope |
Lightweight automotive body components require aluminum sheets with strength, formability, dimensional accuracy, and joining reliability. In this study, 3104 and 6451 2.0 mm thick aluminum sheets were evaluated for under-body and battery module frame applications using experimental characterization and process simulations. Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted at a strain rate of 0.001 s−1, and strain evolution was measured by ARAMIS digital image correlation. The 3104 sheet showed direction-dependent yield strength, elongation, r-value, and n-value, providing input data for U-frame stability analysis. For the 6451 sheet, fixed heat-treatment simulations were performed to predict precipitate size and volume fraction in surface and center regions of the coil. The heat-treated 6451 sheet exhibited balanced strength and elongation, and forming simulations were conducted for under-body B and C parts. Self-piercing rivet joining was evaluated, confirming a joint strength of 3.45 kN. These results support low-carbon aluminum sheet development using 10% recycled ingot-containing alloys. |
