| Abstract Scope |
The need for multifunctional metal-based materials and components for use in extreme environments is increasing. In this study, to add functionality to existing metal materials, other materials containing W, Ta, etc. were deposited using the laser DED method, and their properties were evaluated. When materials with significantly different physical properties were deposited on a metal using DED, defects such as cracks were generated depending on the process conditions, and microstructural observations revealed changes in the size and shape of the generated precipitates. This acted as a cause for microstructural changes and the generation of crack defects during the solid solution or precipitation process of materials with different thermal expansion rates due to repeated melt-cooling thermal cycles. When a heat-resistant material is clad to the surface of an existing metal material without defects, it results in improved wear resistance and high-temperature corrosion resistance while maintaining the advantages of the existing material. |
