| Abstract Scope |
With the advances of both metal additive manufacturing (AM) and artificial intelligence (AI), an opportunity exists to couple these arenas for novel, groundbreaking tools. This research provides an overview of success stories of incorporation of vision- and language-based tools into advanced materials science and manufacturing research in powder-based AM processes. Such topics include the development of tools for improved material evaluation, leveraging computer vision for particle morphology analysis and unsupervised learning for classifying inhomogeneities across samples. These tools can be extended to improve interpretability and explainability of results through tailored graphical interfaces and improve accessibility for users without advanced analytics experience through large language models. |
