High-performance magnets based on rare-earth intermetallics are indispensable for energy conversion. However, their cost, supply vulnerability, and intrinsic brittleness restrict broader use, particularly under dynamic mechanical loading and in complex component geometries. Here, we develop a rare-earth-free Co–Fe–Ni–Ti–Cu complex concentrated alloy with improved magnetic and mechanical properties by introducing a nanoscale lamellar microstructure through thermo-magnetic annealing. The applied magnetic field accelerates eutectoid decomposition relative to conventional thermal annealing, producing smaller eutectoid colonies and fine, uniformly distributed lamellae with controlled dimensions, interface, density, and chemical partitioning. These nano-lamellae impede both dislocation motion and magnetic domain, thereby enhancing mechanical strength and magnetic hardness. Thermo-magnetic processing thus offers a practical pathway for designing complex concentrated alloys for advanced motors and generators in harsh environments. This study develops a Co–Fe–Ni–Ti–Cu chemically complex concentrated alloy fabricated via thermokinetically controlled LDED, followed by tailored thermal treatments. |
