| Abstract Scope |
Bracket fungi have been investigated for various medicinal advantages, but their structural applications are understudied despite possessing a high strength-to-weight ratio. This research aims to characterize the mechanical properties of the context, the central flesh-like layer, in bracket fungi. Micro-mechanical tensile testing and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to characterize this layer at the microstructural level. This research entailed processing bracket fungi into samples for mechanical testing and SEM and analyzing the microstructural data. The bracket fungi demonstrate anisotropic behavior as evident in the ultimate tensile strength, elastic modulus, and strain to failure. Characterization of bracket fungi could inspire applications in structural and aerospace industries. |
