Presentation Title Applying Fundamentals and New Approaches to Greatly Enhance Rare Earth Elements Separations
Author(s) Michael L. Free, Prashant Sarswat, Easton Sadler, Benjamin Schroeder
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Michael L. Free
Abstract Scope Rare earth elements (REEs) are critical to many important products we use everyday. REEs are challenging to separate due to their similarities in properties and their very low electrochemical potentials. Magnetic susceptibility, chemical affinity, and functionally tuned materials can be utilized in aqueous media to enhance REEs separations. In addition, transport properties can be effectively leveraged in combination with magnetic forces, chemical affinity, and functionally tuned materials to expand separation capabilities. This presentation will discuss the associated principles and show results for enhanced REEs separations.
