| Abstract Scope |
Many workplaces that process molten aluminum are unprepared for a molten metal spill. Workers have been injured and killed. Workplaces suffered damage or were destroyed when the uncontrolled flow of molten metal was not stopped during a spill and contained. There is a gap in literature on how workplaces should prepare for a molten spill. This paper will address the importance of molten metal spill kits. Specifically, this paper will review the items needed in a molten metal spill kit to safely stop the flow of molten metal and contain the spill from flowing into sensitive areas. Many workplaces for too long failed to see the danger in allowing molten metal to flow uncontrollably out of the holding spot onto the workfloor. Failure to include molten metal spill kits in a workplace’s safety system endangers not only the workers but the surrounding communities too. |
