Abstract Scope |
This review aimed to gather information on the use of bauxite residue (BR) in Brazil and worldwide. A systematic search was conducted on the Web of Science platform for the period 1995–2024. Globally, 1,539 articles were identified, showing exponential growth over time. In Brazil, publications began in 2010. China leads with 810 articles, while Brazil ranks fifth with 61. Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed that the predominant research area is material production, particularly the use of BR in functional materials such as adsorbents and for catalysis. On a global scale, applications in element recovery and soil amendment were also highlighted. This study enhanced the understanding of current proposals for BR utilization in different regions and identified research gaps. To address these gaps, future studies should include economic feasibility assessments of large-scale applications, investigations on the efficiency of pretreatment methods, and evaluations of associated operational costs. |
