Abstract Scope |
Many intermetallics exhibit fascinating electronic, magnetic and topological properties for quantum information applications. Characterizing their properties often requires large bulk single-crystals, which can be difficult to synthesize reliably. One major challenge is the synthesis of ‘buried intermetallics’, which have peritectic or peritectoid phase boundaries, meaning they cannot be solidified simply by cooling from a liquid melt of the same composition. In these cases, the buried intermetallic needs to be grown from a molten flux with a different stoichiometry than the target phase. Finding an optimal flux composition is therefore the essential design parameter in flux growth. Here, we present a computational pathway to evaluate liquidus curves across broad compositional spaces, which provides a predictive framework to design crystal growth conditions for buried intermetallics. |
