| Abstract Scope |
The aluminum industry is shifting from traditional batch casting toward more efficient processes due to rising material and energy costs. Hazelett’s Twin-Belt Casting Line brings together related companies for the critical integration of the continuous process offering superior quality and efficiency. Partner companies, Gautschi/GNA provide low-CO₂ melt shop configurations, while Mino — a minority owner of Hazelett and most experienced rolling company in continuous casting — supplies the tandem hot mill. Together, this integrated process achieves the highest casting speeds, greatest recovery rates, and the greenest footprint in flat-rolled aluminum production. Each year, Hazelett casters produce billions of pounds of value-added products and enjoy a significant cost advantage over alternative methods of casting and rolling. This paper outlines recent improvements to the continuous casting process that address common challenges in critical applications, resulting in significant performance gains for demanding end-products. |
