Abstract Scope |
There is a large and growing volume of work on greenhouse gas reduction in the iron and steel industry. Little has been published, however, on full-scale industrial trials or activities that have been adopted into regular operating practice. This paper reviews the collective efforts at Cleveland-Cliffs to reduce its greenhouse gas footprint to 27% lower than the comparable integrated steel global average. Topics discussed include HBI consumption, maximization of natural gas injection, full-scale bast furnace hydrogen injection trials, maximization of BOF scrap rates, and greening of the electrical grid. |
