Alloy 625 (Inconel 625) is a leading structural material candidate for molten salt reactors (MSRs) due to its high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance in the MSR operational range (600–700 °C). During service, metastable γ"-phase (Ni3Nb) forms and has been proposed to suppress void swelling. However, γ" can transform to δ-phase and has been reported to dissolve under irradiation, leaving its in-service stability and role in swelling resistance unresolved. Using a high-throughput irradiation stage, this work first identifies the dose rate threshold below which γ" remain stable at the MSR operating temperature. This threshold is then applied to an end-of-life irradiation campaign on three microstructural conditions, annealed Grade 1 (fine-grained, no γ"), aged Grade 1 (fine-grained, with γ") and solutionized Grade 2 (coarse-grained, no γ") to isolate the effect of γ" and grain size on void swelling under reactor relevant conditions. |
