Abstract Scope Cold spray technology offers a flexible method of applying coatings of varying compositions to a substrate in a way that would otherwise not be possible. The goal of this study is to characterize a Ni-Cr carbide WIP-C1 cold spray deposit on lightweight Fe-Mn-Al steel. Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and microhardness testing will be used to characterize the coating, substrate, and coating-substrate interface. Additionally, the powder feedstock will be characterized to determine particle size distribution, morphology, and elemental composition.
