| Abstract Scope |
In nuclear environments, materials are exposed to multiple extreme conditions, including irradiation and corrosion. Understanding how these two conditions couple is critical for describing, understanding, and ultimately predicting the behavior of materials in these environments. To that end, the Energy Frontier Research Center FUTURE has been developing unique capabilities, both experimental and computational, to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms that describe this coupling. In this talk, I will describe these new capabilities and the new insights they provide. In particular, I will highlight some of the results we have obtained that emphasize the sometimes counter-intuitive response of materials when irradiation and corrosion couple. |
