| Abstract Scope |
High-resolution additive manufacturing enables customized dental restorations using sustainable biocomposites reinforced with hydroxyapatite (HAp) synthesized from waste. 3D-printed cylinders with HAp loadings of 0, 1, 2.5, 5, 10, and 20% were evaluated, characterizing their morphology (SEM), crystalline structure (XRD), and mechanical response to compression (Instron 68FM-R 5881). While the yield stress did not vary monotonically (maximum 87.9 MPa at 2.5%), the stress-strain curves revealed that fill levels ≥2.5% induce marked strain hardening after yielding, reaching strains up to 10 times greater without catastrophic fracture. The specimens containing 10–20% HAp exhibited post-creep striations rather than brittle failure, indicating toughening mechanisms activated by the load-matrix interface. These results position HAp-resin biocomposites as an innovative and sustainable alternative for next-generation digital dentistry. |
