| Abstract Scope |
The effects of pyrite cinder proportion on the metallurgical properties and compressive strength of oxidized iron ore pellets were systematically investigated. Pellets containing 15–50 wt.% pyrite cinder were prepared and indurated at 1250 °C. Thermodynamic calculations using FactSage were performed to analyze phase assemblages and liquid phase formation behavior. The results indicated that increasing the pyrite cinder proportion promoted liquid phase formation and decreased hematite content. Consequently, the reducibility index (RI) decreased from 74.35% to 60.59% as the pyrite cinder proportion increased from 15 wt.% to 50 wt.%. The reduction swelling index (RSI) also decreased from 14.35% to 10.38%, mainly due to the lower reduction degree and increased MgO content. The compressive strength initially increased and then decreased, reaching a maximum value of 4974 N/pellet at 30 wt.% pyrite cinder. Excessive pyrite cinder addition deteriorated pellet consolidation because of over-sintering and reduced oxidation heat release. |
